Dubai looks set to start 2008 with a bang, and quite probably another world record, this time for the largest firework display in the history of the world.
New York firework organisers ‘Grucci’ will be attempting to make it into the 2008 Guinness Book of World Records as the largest and most artistically detailed fireworks display in history.
A spokesperson for the event said: “We intend to create a tourism and media draw that will put the city of Dubai on the world stage as never before this New Year’s Eve. Our concept is to be the first to set the world record here in Dubai, and keep the record here every year from 2008 forward.”
The display will be set up at 25 locations along the beaches and will be co-ordinated with a piano concerto. The theme is “love and peace” and plans are that the display will reach some 2,000 fit into the air. A rainbow will stretch the entire Dubai coastline to ring in the 2008 “Year of Peace”.
Dubai are definately looking at turning this even into a major tourist attraction, targeting 1 million additional visitors for the event by 2010.
I assume that they’ll be covering the fireworks on the Dubai Tourism webcam HERE
