Great product available over at Yanko Design. This planter literally sits on your balcony railing and is a terrific idea if you live in the city.

Apparently it can fit over pretty much any size/shape of railing without the need for adjustments and comes in a variety of colours.  Being plastic it won’t damage your railings or leave rust marks – perfect if you’re renting.  It also works on fences if you’re in the burbs.

It even has built in drip trays so your plants won’t wee all over your downstairs neighbours.  Great idea for $27.95
