mintThe concept of super-cheap car rental by the hour isn’t new in Europe (or Canada) but its now appeared in New York – a brilliant idea for a city where car ownership is relatively low by international standards.

Zipcar basically allows you to rent a car just when you need one, for $US5 per hour ($69 prt day) which includes gas, insurance & 180 miles free. You need to be a member ($25 to join incl first year membership).

As a nice touch, they also give a 10% discount to non-profits.
