SpoonLidz – an idea which deserves more attention

SpoonLidz

SpoonLidz(tm) is one of those remarkably simple “why didn’t someone think of it first” innovations. Basically it replaces on-pack spoons with something which is :
  • built into the packaging itself (so  less storage space required),
  • more sanitary (you’re eating off a surface which has been totally sealed),
  • has less impact on the environment (made from renewable cardstock with a new sustainable moisture-barrier coating)
  • can be produced easily by most largish printers (minimises shipping cost of having to source offshore) and
  • costs a fraction of other onpack spoon options.
It came onto the market in 2008 and I have to ask “if its so great why isn’t it everywhere by now” – simple answer is I have no idea because it doesn’t appear to be a failing of the product at all.
The same company also has an eco taster which can be used for in-supermarket taste testing – reducing the cost, making it easier to dispose of the rubbish, more environmentally sound and better marketing opportunities for onspoon printing.  But again, few if anyone is using it.
Just think for a moment with the SpoonLidz and its potential applications.  Aside from kids yoghurts and the likes just get a little more basic – what about inflight foods?  More and more airlines are providing pre-packaged meals and they give you a seperate package of utensils which mostly aren’t even vacuum packed or sterile. Plus they take up more space, cost to pack and give you heaps of plasticware to dispose of as rubbish.  How about looking at these SpoonLidz for uses like that?We have so many products out there which are not only better for the environment but also cheaper – if people will just look outside the box a little and break with convention a tiny bit.

The Ancient Enemy: How a 3,000-Year-Old Story Shapes Today’s Middle East

There’s a moment that keeps coming back to me from October 2023. Netanyahu, standing before Israeli troops, invoking a three-thousand-year-old biblical commandment: “Remember what Amalek has done to you.” Most heard heated rhetoric. But for those listening carefully—it was something far more specific.
