Versace dresses Jackson family for Michael’s memorial

Michael Jackson’s Memorial was one of those events which will no doubt not only go down in music history but will stay in the minds of the millions of viewers for a very long time.

With so much to organise, consider & deal with, it’s perhaps a little surprising that the family would consider what designer would be appropriate for them to wear.

Michael Jackson had a long history with Gianni Versace and the Versace house.  Gianni Versace’s first celebrity “hook-up” was for Jackson’s 1983 music video of Say Say Say with Sir Paul McCartney. Michael then went onto wear Versace designed costumes on-stage for both the Dangerous & HIStory tours and was frequently seen in Versace both on and off stage.  Its perhaps not surprising then that Janet Jackson, also a favourite of Versace, personally contacted Donatella asking that the entire family be dressed in Versace for the public memorial.

The men were dressed similarly in a fairly classic Versace look with a tasteful gold tie, but in a move that was bothVersace flash and poignant homage, the men wore a single white glove.  The women & children were all dressed in custom designed Versace outfits, right down to Janet’s sunglasses &  little Paris’s handbag.

It was no doubt fitting that Michael’s family pay tribute to him wearing a brand which was undoubtedly one of his favourites. What is perhaps more fitting is that Versace have not commented or issued any press releases. Admittedly they never had to for an event such as this, but it says much about the label that they went out of their way not to capitalise on it either.
