Mexican transport minister Luis Tellex has announced the intention to issue a tender to build and operate a new airport in the Riviera Maya resort south of Cancun later this year.

Asur have expressed interest in this bud but as it already operates nine airports in Mexico including Cancun, there are concerns regarding competition. Tellez has said he has no objections to them taking part in the bidding process but one has to wonder at their chances without a partner.
