Bluetooth tourist information at the Airport

BT2 208370Joze Pucnik Airport in Ljubljana, Slovenia have launched a new tourism product for arriving passengers. Using your Bluetooth enabled phone, you can download tourist information and coupons for your stay in Slovenia.

The campaign was created by the Slovenian Tourist Board in conjunction with Aerodrom Ljubljana and Creativ Interaktiv.

When a passenger arrives they receive a message inviting them to turn on the bluetooth feature on their phone as they travel on the airport’s bus from the plane to the terminal. This invitation is repeated as they pass through customs on the way to pick up their baggage. The baggage claims area has been set up as a bluetooth zone so if users have activated their bluetooth they sent a free message with instructions on how to download the information pack – which is in both Slovene & English. The information pack includes tips for an easy stay in Slovenia, recommended tourist attractions, events and mobile phone coupons from partner attractions.

So far it appears like the initiative is proving successful. Other attempts to use bluetooth proximity messaging haven’t been so successful but the hypothesis here is that when travelling, people are more used to getting messages from mobile providers once they get off planes in a new location – so are less resistent to the concept in an airport.
